Short stay respite KS1 and 2
Our Physical Education curriculum is delivered with a focus on the development of our pupils’ 10 Fundamental skills and the Individual Growth skills. The 10 Fundamental skills are: Balancing, Running. Hopping, Skipping, Jumping, Leaping, Kicking, Throwing, Catching and Striking. These are implemented in a manner which will be revisited throughout the curriculum and the students will able to apply the skills learned in game situations, this will allow them to secure the learning in multiple ways. Our Sport and Physical Education curriculum also supports our pupils to develop emotionally and behaviourally as they must display social interaction, team work and resilience skills, through game situations.

Short stay respite Year 7 & 8
Our Physical Education curriculum at Year 7 and Year 8, our students can grasp the key concepts of team and individual sports: Rules of the games, Teamwork, Attacking, Defending, Movement and Outwitting opponents. These are explored through the medium of various team and individual sports. We also explore Health and Fitness concepts and Athletics. Students are also encouraged to work towards their Individual Growth targets.

Year 9
Our Physical Education curriculum at Year 9 is sequenced throughout the full academic year. Our students develop their knowledge of the key concepts of team and individual sports. Here, we reinforce our focus on: Rules of the games, Teamwork, Attacking, Defending, Movement and Outwitting opponents. We also explore Health and Fitness concepts and Athletics to develop students for participating in competitive sports. We predominantly deliver the national curriculum objectives, which we adapt to fit with our setting, to ensure our students are receiving a holistic delivery of PE.

KS4 core curriculum
Our curriculum approach to Physical Education at KS4 is based around participation, enjoyment and wellbeing. We approach games and sports in a competitive manner to prepare students for sporting competitions as part of our extra-curricular enrichment opportunities. Students have the option of visiting the gym, which also allows them to access a mental health and wellbeing centred approach to their PE curriculum.

KS4 vocational curriculum
This curriculum develops a range of skills through involvement in sport and physical activity in different contexts and roles. We develop students’ ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations and gain a better understanding of the complexity of different areas of sport and the sports industry. Students will build knowledge in reducing risks in sport injuries, applying the principles of training, sports nutrition and sports psychology. Students will develop an appreciation of how sport science underpins sport at all levels and develop knowledge of anatomy, physiology, injury prevention, improving personal fitness through appropriate training and diet, and the role of psychology in improving performance. Students will develop an increased awareness of different ways to stay involved in sport and physical activity and of different careers and roles within sport.
Students will have the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge about different types of sport and physical activity, in a practical scenario. Students will learn about topical issues in sport such as reducing sport injuries, applying the principles of training, sports nutrition and sports psychology as well as accessing new state-of-the-art sport facilities on school grounds and in the local geographical area.
